Rice for every meal? Not a problem for Malaysians
Malaysians eat rice all the time. It has become a must-have food on the table for breakfast until dinner. Being heavily influenced by Thai, Chinese, Indonesian and Indian cuisine, rice has become the main essential for every meal.
“ I can’t live without eating rice for one day"
One of the famous Malaysian breakfast cuisines is Nasi Lemak. This rice-based cuisine is steamed with coconut milk and pandan leaves and served with fried anchovies, peanuts, sliced cucumber, hardboiled eggs and sambal (chilli paste). This popular dish is traditionally eaten for breakfast but these days people can easily order it any time of the day.
On the other hand, restaurants are usually busy with families eating together on the weekend. Particularly they love to have it during breakfast hour. “I can’t live without eating rice for one day” said by one local man while having nasi lemakfor breakfast with his family. “However I can survive with noodles as an alternative if I can’t find rice anywhere but not for long though..” he continued and chuckled.
Being known as a multi-cultural country, Chinese and Indian food naturally has been blend together as a Malaysian food fusion. Varieties of side dishes are served together along with rice as main dish. Side dishes are created with the use of meat, fish and vegetables to eat together with the rice. You can have your side dishes cooked with Malay, Chinese or Indian style and it will still be a perfect combination to eat it with just plain white rice.
There is no argue, Malaysia is a food heaven.
