Apart from being famous for fish & chips, Melbourne is also well known for having various cuisines from different countries. The number of Asian migrated to Australia increases year by year and this leads to diverse of nationalities and cultures in a country.

On the bright side, you can find almost every type of cuisine such as Thai, Chinese, Malaysian, Indonesian, Vietnamese etc. Turkish cuisine (kebabs mostly) can also be easily found here.

An Indonesian-owned restaurant called Ayam Penyet Ria has succeeds in making Indonesian proud of serving a delicacy that cannot be well-praised enough. This restaurant never stop receiving customers from local and Asian people. The signature dish of this place is (you can guess it from the name) Ayam Penyet.

Three plates of Ayam penyet and side dish; dumplings & 'apam balik'

Ayam Penyet is a type of Indonesian dish that consist of fried chicken (cooked with special Indonesian style), served with sambal (chilli paste), slices of cucumber, fried tofu and tempeh. This dish is known for the spicy sambal and therefore it is balanced with white rice and slices of cucumbers.

Located in 248 Clarendon St, South Melbourne

I definitely recommend this place to anyone who wishes to try Indonesian food when in Melbourne. Be it tourist, local people or students in Melbourne, this restaurant is a MUST to try!
